Good questions

Find answers

Where do your files actually live?
Handled keeps the documents that you send or scan in your own cloud (Google Drive or Dropbox).
How does Handled organize and save your files?
Each uploaded or emailed document is stored and organized in folders and subfolders with tags. Adding multiple tags to files makes it easier for Handled to locate them.
How do documents get into Handled?
Upload a file to the Handled app from your phone or forward an email to your private Handled address. No mailbox connection, logins, or passwords required.
How does the private email address work?
After you sign up, Handled creates a unique, private forward address just for you. Forward any email or attachment there and Handled files it automatically. It’s inbound-only and locked to your verified address; no mailbox to connect to and no password to share.
Is Handled actually private?

Yes. We built Handled for privacy, and you don’t have to take our word for it. Here’s what that means in plain words, with the bit of code behind each promise.

Your files live in your cloud, not ours.
When you connect Google Drive or Dropbox, your documents go straight from your device into a Handled folder in your own cloud. They never pass through our servers. We keep only what helps you find things again: the title, the dates, a short summary, and a pointer to where the file sits in your cloud.

Verified in the code: the upload sends your file straight from your browser to your own cloud. Handled saves the details and a pointer, never the file itself.

Only you can open your files.
Your documents aren’t sitting at a public web link. Every time one is opened, Handled checks on its own servers that it’s yours, then hands back a link that works for a few minutes and then stops. Access always runs through that check.

Verified in the code: an open request carries a document id, never a file location, and the server confirms the document is yours before it makes a short-lived link.

Forwarding email keeps your privacy.
You get your own private Handled address to forward things to. Handled never connects to your inbox, and it never stores who emailed you. It keeps a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of the sender, and only so it doesn’t file the same thing twice.

Verified in the code: the sender is stored as a salted one-way hash. The real address is never saved, and Handled has no way into your mailbox.

Your account is walled off from everyone else’s.
Every document, reminder, and note is locked to your account. One person can never reach another person’s things.

Verified in the code: row-level security is on every kind of record, so a request can only ever return your own.

Ella helps you sort. She doesn’t learn from your documents.
Ella reads a document only to name it, sort it, and summarize it for you. Your documents are never sold, and they’re never used to train AI models.

Verified in the code: the AI step is limited to naming, sorting, and summarizing, and it can’t reach anything outside Handled’s own storage.

A few more things, all in your hands.
Photos have their hidden location and camera data stripped before they upload, unless you’d rather keep it. You can lock Handled with a PIN, your face, or your fingerprint. And you can delete your account and everything we hold whenever you want.

Verified in the code: metadata stripping is on by default, app lock is built in, and account deletion is a real, working control.

What does Handled cost?

Try Handled with 15 free scans, no card required. Then, pick the plan that fits your needs.

  • Standard: $12/month or $99/year with 75 AI scans a month
  • Pro: $24/month or $199/year with 250 monthly scans

Every feature is in both, and you’re never billed for overage. Cancel anytime in the app.

What are “tamper-evident” records?

Handled gives you the option to save files with a time-stamp and a SHA-256 hash, so you can show a file hasn’t changed since you saved it.

It’s a record-keeping tool, not legal advice, and we don’t claim court-admissibility.

Does Handled give medical or legal advice?
No. Handled organizes your documents and appointments and can create optional task lists to help you get ready. It never interprets instructions or gives advice. Ella isn’t a doctor or a lawyer, and AI can make mistakes, so always confirm the details before saving and rely on the professionals for advice. You’re responsible for the accuracy of your appointment details.
What happens to your data if you cancel?

Nothing happens to your files. They live in your cloud, in your Handled folder, so canceling doesn’t move, change, or delete any of them. Your documents stay right where they are in your Google Drive or Dropbox, and you can open them with or without Handled.

On our side, we keep only what helped you find things: titles, dates, a secure hash, and a pointer to each file. You can delete your Handled account and everything we hold whenever you want.

At any time, canceled or not, you can export a full offline copy of your entire vault (Files → your Handled file). However, the file data in your index is critical to search. If you delete your index, you won’t be able to search the items in that deleted index.

What happens to your files if Handled ever shuts down?
Nothing. They live in your cloud, not ours, so they stay yours no matter what happens to us.
Can your whole family use it?
Coming soon. A shared family vault with emergency next-of-kin access is on the way after launch. Join the waiting list and we’ll tell you the moment it’s ready.
Should you keep the original documents you scan or forward?
Yes, please do. Handled organizes your files, but it isn’t a backup service. Always keep the originals of anything you scan or send in, plus your own backups, so you’re never relying on a single copy.
How much information does Handled collect about you?
As little as possible. Your files live in your own cloud, not ours, and we keep only what helps you find things: a title, type, date, and a secure hash. We never sell or share it.
